Emergency officials are pleading with the public to exercise caution after 11 grassfires have started near Dawson Creek in a 7-day period.

A grassfire broke out Monday morning near Rolla. Firefighters were called to the scene around 11am near the gun range.

The fire started after a brush pile started to burn out of control. Windy conditions made it more difficult to get the blaze under control.

On Friday night, the Dawson Creek Fire Department was called to two separate grassfires. The first started around 5:20pm near the Dangerous Goods Road. Once again, someone was burning a brush pile that grew out of control due to the wind.

About a half an hour later, another blaze occurred on 8th Street just north of Dawson Creek city limits. The fire grew to a half a hectare in size before being brought under control. Burning brush piles are also thought to be the cause of the fire.

On Saturday night, another fire broke out North of Fort St. John. It started south of Pineview on 259 Road. The fire grew to 0.2 hectares in size before being brought under

control. The fire is also thought to be human caused.

Dawson Creek Fire Chief Marcel Capel is reminding the public to have proper burning permits and not to burn during windy conditions.
