The City of Fort St. John is teaming up with the Association for Community Living to explore a potential housing project downtown.

The initiative aims to offer inclusive, accessible workforce housing, featuring subsidized units for residents living with disabilities.

“This potential project will provide more affordable, accessible housing options that meet the diverse needs of our residents as we continue building a community where everyone can thrive,” said City of Fort St. John Mayor Lilia Hansen.

Although the plans are still in the preliminary stages, the proposed development would be located at the former Fort St. John Hospital site, just off 100th Avenue.

The site is also home to a 115-unit senior housing complex currently being developed by VRS Communities.

To advance the project, the Fort St. John Association for Community Living is working closely with BC Builds. They have posted a Property Opportunity Notice on the programs website to attract potential developers.

An information session for those interested in learning more about the project or for developers considering submitting a proposal will be held on February 3, 2025.

The building will be owned and operated by the association and the city.

“We are excited to play a part in addressing the housing needs of our community, specifically affordable and accessible housing, in collaboration with the City and BC Builds,” said Fort St. John Association for Community Living Chief Executive Officer Jordan Soggie.
