The Province of BC and the City of Dawson Creek have proclaimed this week, as Heritage Week.

To celebrate, the South Peace Historical Society has teamed up with MacWood Productions and will be running four silent movies at the Dawson Creek Senior’s Hall.

Buster Keaton’s The General will be the first movie aired this Friday. There will be three other films, that have yet to be decided on.

The Executive Director of the South Peace Historical Society said this year’s theme is ‘Pastimes and Past Time.’

Fanni De Maio said, “This will be a fun way to bring the community together and give people something to do.” De Maio said that MacWood Productions has donated an historic reel-to-reel projector and four silent movies.

Co-Owner of MacWood Productions, Grady MacTavish said, the reel-to-reel projector was given to them by the Pioneer Village, along with about 50 film reels.

MacTavish said, “The South Peace Historical Society has been a joy to work with. What they do for the community, making sure we know our history here, is incredibly important.”

The movies start at 4pm at the Senior’s Hall. They will run every second Friday starting on February 21st.

There will be free popcorn and refreshments and the event is free for everyone to attend.

De Maio said the event is made possible in part thanks to a donation from the Shell NEBC Community Grant.
