Avalanche Canada has issued a warning to Peace Region backcountry users concerning dangerous conditions.
With the rise in temperatures and strong sunshine, the risk of human-triggered avalanches in the Peace Region is listed as ‘considerable.’
Avalanche Canada said, “Choose conservative terrain as high temperatures and strong sunshine will weaken the snowpack. Avoid overhead exposure to cornices, particularly on north facing alpine slopes.”
Backcountry users are being told to avoid alpine areas. There’s also a moderate risk of an avalanche in the treeline area as well.
