Avalanche Canada has issued a warning to Peace Region backcountry users concerning dangerous conditions.
With the rise in temperatures and the increase in wind speeds, the risk of human-triggered avalanches in the Peace Region is listed as ’considerable.’
Avalanche Canada said, “New snow, combined with strong winds and rising temperatures, will create reactive wind and storm slabs. This is most concerning in wind-exposed areas, where the new snow is being blown into deeper deposits in leeward terrain.”
Backcountry users are being told to avoid alpine areas. There’s also a moderate risk of an avalanche in the treeline area as well.
