Judge Richard Blaskovits has sentenced a criminal, who is well-known to Dawson Creek police to 300 days in jail.

Tanner Murray pled guilty to 10 charges and will be released from the Prince George Regional Correction Centre near the end of March.

Murray pled guilty to two counts of assaulting a police officer, possessing a firearm with an altered serial number, occupying a vehicle with a known firearm present, flight from police and breaching a number of release orders.

Murray is facing a lifetime firearms ban and is prohibited from driving for two years after pleading guilty to drinking and driving.

Murray has been in custody since August 29, 2024. He has served 183 days in jail and with credit for time already served. He will walk out of jail in 24 days time.

Murray will have served under seven months in jail for the 10 offences he pled guilty to. At the time of the sentence hearing, Murray had no prior criminal record.

Murray is not stranger to Dawson Creek RCMP. In August of 2024, a search of his residence led to the seizure of illegal guns, over 1000 rounds of ammunition and drugs, including suspected fentanyl and heroin. Police say support gear for organized crime was also seized.

In January of 2024, Murray was a fugitive on the run from police. In May of 2023, he was arrested and charged with robbery and uttering threats. Those charges were stayed by the crown.

This past fall, the CBC’s Fifth Estate spoke to the stepsister of Daralyn Supernant. She said on the day Daralyn disappeared, she had been really pre-occupied talking to Murray on her phone.

The stepsister also revealed that police have been asking her friends about Murray, during their investigation into Darylyn’s disappearance.

Shyann Hambler also told the Fifth Estate that she last saw Renee Didier on the day she went missing. According to phone records obtained by CJDC TV News, that was on December 3rd, 2023 at 6:28pm.

Hambler said a video chat showed Renee in a hotel room with Tanner Murray and a second man, Brian Mooney, who has since died of a suspected drug overdose.

The MLA for Peace River South said the revolving door justice system in BC must end.

Larry Neufeld said, “The NDP Government has failed the people of British Columbia. The citizens of the South Peace and British Columbia deserve better and we must do better for them.
