Flags are flying at half mast in Fort Nelson for a firefighter who was killed in December, while off-duty.

Ryan Kerr died in a motor vehicle accident over the Christmas holidays while driving to visit his family.

“Ryan Kerr was a dedicated firefighter, a mentor to youth throughout our community and has left our department with a missing link. On Friday, we will kneel for his family and for our brothers and sisters and everyday following, we will stand for him,” said the fire department in a statement.

The member of the Northern Rockies Fire Department is being remembered as someone who served with courage and dedication.

“It is with heavy hearts that we remember Firefighter Ryan Kerr, who passed away in December 2024. Ryan served with dedication and courage as a member of the Northern Rockies Fire Department, leaving a lasting impact on his colleagues and the community he proudly

served,” said the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality in a Facebook post.

A celebration of life for Kerr is taking place this Friday at 2pm at the Northern Rockies Recreation Centre.
