Fort St. John flights to and from Vancouver delayed due to staffing issues

Flights in and out of Fort St. John’s North Peace Region Airport were delayed due to staffing issues at Vancouver International Airport Wednesday.

Two Air Canada and one WestJet flight were delayed from Vancouver this morning. Air Canada flight #8368 from Fort St. John to Vancouver was also delayed.

Air traffic control agency Nav Canada says those planning to take a flight to or from Vancouver International Airport should prepare for delays due to what the agency says are “underlying personnel resource challenges.‘’

It is encouraging passengers to check the status of their flights with their airlines before they head to the airport.

The agency has previously said there was a shortage of air traffic controllers, who manage Canada’s 18-million square kilometres of airspace.

It says it is actively working to keep air traffic moving as ``safely and as efficiently as possible.‘’
