Speed Skating BC has recognized a Fort St. John woman with a big honour. Corrie Bennie has been named the ‘Provincial Volunteer of the Year.’

Bennie is the safety coordinator for the Fort St John Elks Speed Skating Club, providing medical support at many events during the season.

Speed Skating BC said, “From local time trials to national competitions, she always arrives first and stays until the end with her characteristic smile.”

Corrie has helped in many different positions with the Elks and the provincial organization since her daughter joined the Elks 7 years ago. Corrie has served in virtually every role including, fundraising director, registrar, secretary, president, vice-president and timer.

The governing body says that Corrie’s experience in education and board service has provided valuable guidance during challenging decisions, while her work on both club and provincial awards committees has improved how they recognize contributions.

“What’s truly remarkable is Corrie’s continued commitment even after their daughter moved beyond competitive skating. Corrie embodies selfless volunteerism and is a cornerstone of our skating community’s success. Congratulations, Corrie!” said Speed Skating BC.
