The Fort St. John Women’s Resource Society is the latest victim of vandalism and is now seeking the public’s assistance in identifying three individuals who destroyed signage in front of their buildings.

The incident occurred on March 7th, just before midnight.

Security camera video posted on the non-profit’s Facebook page shows three individuals walking down 96th Avenue. One of the perpetrators is then captured kicking and plowing through the sign, which displayed the society’s logo and phone number, before jumping on it.

Another suspect then drives himself into a pile of garbage beside the sign before the trio walks away.

The Women’s Resource Society described the act of vandalism as “disheartening,” especially since it happened at the start of International Women’s Day.

Speaking with CJDC-TV, Manager of Fundraising and Community Engagement Estefania Albornoz says this is not the first time the centre has experienced vandalism.

“We don’t understand why someone would do this,” said Albornoz. “As a nonprofit, all the money we have to spend in this kind of stuff, it’s less money to provide services for our clients.”

She noted that the sign was made from durable plexiglass with a solid wood backing to ensure it was sturdy and not easy to remove.

The sign remains down and is currently being repaired.

A case file has since been opened with the RCMP.

Anyone with additional footage from that night or information is being asked to come forward to help identify those involved.
