Dawson Creek RCMP provided an update to the public on Tuesday, after a man was murdered, another man was shot and two drive-by shootings occured, all in the span of 4 days.
Police were at three separate crime scenes Monday morning after a man was found murdered in an apartment in Dawson Creek.
Sources tell CJDC TV News that the body of Johnny Joe Freeman was found in an apartment in the 1000 block of 102nd Avenue.
Sources also tell CJDC TV News, Freeman who went by the name Joel, went to the apartment Sunday night to retrieve a family member’s stolen cellphone. It is believed he was shot and killed after confronting an individual.
A block away from the murder scene, police and the Forensic Unit were combing through the Mile Zero Motel.
A man was shot in an apartment unit late Sunday night. A 20-year woman and 16 year old girl were present at the time.
Police identified several persons of interest in connection with both investigations. No charges have been laid to date and the investigation is ongoing.
While police believe these to be targeted events, they are reminded the public to be diligent.
The Dawson Creek RCMP has seen a higher than usual level of violence in the community over the past week which appears to be related to the ongoing gang conflict in the Peace Region.
The community can expect a larger police presence as resources from around the province have been deployed to Dawson Creek.
The resources deployed to the community include BC RCMP North District Major Crime (NDMCU), North District General Investigation Section (NDGIS), Uniformed Gang Enforcement Team (UEGT), E Division Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU) and members from surrounding detachments.
