A Dawson Creek family is marking a grim 2-year anniversary. On March 3rd, 2023, Kiara Agnew was murdered while on vacation in Mexico.
Kiara was in Playa del Carmen to celebrate her 24th birthday with her boyfriend.
The day after they arrived in the Mexican Riveria, the couple were found at the resort, laying on the floor of a janitor’s closet.
Kiera was pronounced dead at the scene, while Mexican authorities arrested her boyfriend and took him into custody.
Kiara’s boyfriend was found not guilty of femicide in a Mexican court. Kiara’s aunt said the family still has many questions about how the case was handled.
“I feel completely misled and I feel insulted because we were made to believe it was such an open and closed case,” Katlyn Agnew told CJDC TV News in October.
Kiara’s mom Michele, sister Tiana and Aunt Katlyn visited the resort where she died, as part of their healing process. They say they took comfort from seeing the region.
