The City of Fort St. John has activated a ‘cyber incident response’ following a network outage on Tuesday.
After discovering the breach, the city says they immediately severed connections to limit further impact and activated the response plan to identify and assess the cause.
All city facilities remain open, although services are “severely impacted.”
There is currently no word if the breach led to unauthorized parties to have access to personal data or sensitive information. However, the city has committed to providing “regular and transparent updates” regarding the situation.
Just after 9:00 a.m. on February 25, the city announced their IT team was working to restore services after an outage that impacted internet, server access, ‘some’ phone calls, and incoming and outgoing emails.
In a later update, the city said in-person service capacity was “extremely limited” and telephone service was intermittent.
Residents are being encouraged to report any issues by calling (778) 256-0076 or through the city’s social media channels.
This is a developing story, CJDC-TV will continue to provide updates as new information is made available.
