One of B-C’s most notorious gangsters walked out of jail after the charge he was facing, was stayed.
Jarrod Bacon was charged with aggravated assault in connection with a shooting in the parking lot of the Nic Mac Building in Fort Nelson on January 29th. John Chasse, 41 years old, was also charged with assault in relation to the same shooting.
The victim was taken to the General Hospital to be treated for his injuries.
At the time, the Northern Rockies RCMP said the shooting that occurred outside a business in the 5000 block of 51st Avenue, was targeted.
The BC Prosecution Service told CJDC TV News that the decision to stay the charges against both Mr. Bacon and Mr. Chasse was made after further information was received by the prosecutor.
“After reviewing this information and the rest of the materials provided by the investigative agency, the prosecutor concluded the charge approval standard was no longer met. In these circumstances a stay of proceedings is the appropriate course of action,” said Damienne Darby, Communications Counsel with the BC Prosecution Service.
The Prosecution Service does not disclose the reasoning behind decisions that involve the exercise of prosecutorial discretion in individual files, except in very rare cases.
“If, at any point, the prosecutor concludes that the evidentiary standard is no longer met or that a prosecution is no longer required in the public interest, a prosecution cannot proceed,” added Darby.
In October 2024, CJDC TV broke the news that Bacon, who was once a member of the Red Scorpions and the Bacon Brothers Gang was living in Fort Nelson.
In 2012, the now 41-year-old was sentenced to 14 years in prison after attempting to import 100-kilograms of cocaine.
The Parole Board of Canada noted there were several additional charges for violent offences that were dropped. Those included armed assault, attempted murder, assault causing bodily harm and discharging a firearm with intent.
Bacon has been released from prison several times. His family has been front and centre in BC’s on-going gang war.
His oldest brother Jonathan was shot to death in a brazen daylight shooting in Kelowna in 2011.
Bacon’s other brother Jamie pled guilty to conspiracy in the ‘Surrey Six Massacre’ where 4 gangsters were gunned down in 2007, along with 2 innocent by-standers.
The case against Bacon and Chasse can be re-opened with a one year if new evidence warrants it.
Rhere is no word if Bacon has moved back to Fort Nelson after being released from custody.
