An extreme cold warning is in effect this morning across the Peace Region, leading to a third consecutive day of bus cancellations.

School Districts 59 and 60 have announced that school buses across all routes will be cancelled for the entire day on February 5, 2025.

Despite the transportation disruptions, schools remain open. The cancellations are due to an extreme cold warning issued by Environment Canada, with wind chill values nearing -40°C on Wednesday morning.

The weather agency has warned that the extreme cold “puts everyone at risk” and urges residents to cover up, as frostbite can develop on exposed skin within minutes.

School District 60’s Facilities and Transportation department told CJDC-TV Monday that they are monitoring the deep freeze on a daily basis, and it is uncertain whether the cancellations will continue into tomorrow.

Parents are encouraged to stay updated by checking school websites, social media channels, or subscribing to text alerts for the latest information.

DriveBC also continues to advise motorists to exercise caution on the roads, particularly along Highway 97, where slippery conditions have been reported.

After evening snowfall and overnight lows of -27°C, temperatures are expected to ease to -15°C by Thursday.
