Peace River Regional District announces nominees for Area B Director

The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) has announced two nominees for the position of Area B Director.

Current Alternative Director Reid Graham will be running against Madeleine Lehmann after the nomination period closed on January 17th.

The position was previously held by Peace River North MLA Jordan Kealy, with the new director to fill the remainder of his term, which extends into 2026.

Lehmann is currently a board trustee with School District 60 and has been a resident of the electoral area for more than 30 years.

“I am committed to hear and represent the local voices and advocate on their behalf. I want to help make decisions with the interest of the residents of Area B at the centre,” said Lehmann in her candidate biography as part of the nomination documents.

While Graham, a resident and small farm owner in the Cecil Lake area, highlighted firsthand knowledge and a need for ‘continuity’ in the position he’s held since Kealy’s resignation.

“I have been very involved in the past year on the committees and societies that I currently serve on. I am just trying to ensure our area is represented by someone who lives and farms in the area, and want to ensure we are properly represented,” said Graham.

Area B covers 21 unincorporated communities north of Fort St. John, and is home to the First Nation Reserves of the Doig River, Halfway River, Blueberry River, and Tsay Key Dene First Nations.

Advanced voting will take place on February 12 and 19, with general voting in the by-election scheduled for February 22, 2025.

To vote, you must be resident, property owner, or a First Nation within the electoral area.

Voting details and information on eligibility can be found on the PRRD’s website.
