Two men taken to Grande Prairie after collision south of Pouce Coupe - with Dawson Creek hospital on diversion

A STARS Air Ambulance is seen in this undated file photo.

One person was airlifted to hospital after a serious collision Friday morning, south of Pouce Coupe.

Police say that a semi loaded with vehicles hit a service truck on Highway 2 around 7:30am, south of the weigh scales.

Both drivers were taken to hospital in Grande Prairie. One man was taken by helicopter, the other by ambulance because the hospital in Dawson Creek was on diversion at the time. So far there is no word on the extent of both men’s injuries.

The highway has been closed all morning due to a large amount of debris on the road. It is expected to remain closed for the next few hours. Motorists are having to use the Old Edmonton Highway as a detour.

Mounties have also been searching for hours for a dog that escaped from one of the vehicles, after the accident.

Police cannot confirm if icy road conditions were a factor in the crash.

However, there has been a large number of collisions across the Peace Region due to icy road conditions.
